"EXLibris, excerpts from geological books

What comes into view when you open a stone book? What do the pages look like? Is it a book? What is written in it? The graphic work: "Ex Libris, excerpts from the books" opens sculptural stone books and make an attempt to create a connection between the 3-dimensional art of sculpture and the 2-dimensional graphic representation of the impressions of the contents. Stone and paper and thus material and graphics should mutually complement each other and convey associations to the structure and content of the individual stone books. Above all, it was important to capture the color atmosphere of the geological material and transfer this to paper.

The geological rock books demonstrate different Norwegian rock types and bear witness to geological development and temporal transience. Opening a stone book and reading the pages is accomplished in the viewer's imagination. In this way, nature is a creative author who has immortalized traces and imprints in the material after millions of years.

These imaginary stone pages of geological books show traces of texture in addition to structure and color. This is how the signs of time become visible, in the form of weathering and decay or surfaces that bear traces of the weather and visible remains of plants. This illustration of natural processes shapes its own visual worlds and makes it possible to read geological books. Stone is readable. The graphics show the image of the pages and give an impression of the inside of the books. Nature was the author and time was the artist of the illustrations.
